Every single PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which interacts with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, along with any applications that are present on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, each app runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs on the market and we provide all three rather than just one because we realize that you might want to install some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there are various software programs you may install on the server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you want to use one and for that reason we offer several Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you want a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your server as different applications can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free hosting service. Based on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
